The Pembrokeshire National Park is itself a huge adventure playground for adults and children alike. The selection of beaches alone, is probably more than enough to keep most children happy for a fantastic holiday in their eyes. However we live in England, and can't guarantee that every day of our holiday will have weather good enough to spend the day on the beach. This is where this area of Pembrokeshire comes into its own, as there are also masses of activities that can be done on an overcast, or rainy day.
Explore Freshwater East Burrows Nature Reserve. This is on the doorstep. It consists of sand dunes, scrub and woodland, providing an excellent habitat for legless lizards, glow-worms and snakes. Rabbits, ponies and scores of other creatures all share this very spacial place, as well as a huge variety of wild flowers. The adder, Britain's only venomous snake also lives here, but it is very rare that you will spot one.
The nearby marsh with its varied bird and plant life, is also part of the nature reserve.
Heatherton Family Leisure Park, Tenby, can provide nearly enough activities to fill your holiday. Try your hand at; Paintballing, Go Karting, Bumper boats on Heatherton's own lake, Laser clay pigeon shooting, Baseball/ softball range, Pembrokeshire Raceway, Robot Wars, 18 hole Golf Course and Crazy Golf, Pistol shooting, and Archery. There is an exciting adventure Tree top Trail which involves abseiling, climbing etc.
The Blue Lagoon is a fun filled water park at Narbeth, about 40 minutes drive away.
Oakwood Theme Park, Canasten Bridge, about 30 minutes drive away. Here you can find rides and rollercoasters for everyones tastes, from the thrilling, to the chilling, to simple fun.
Carew Karting at nearby Carew, has a fantastic 500m outdoor tarmac track to race around.
Ritec Valley Quad Bikes. Here you can enjoy the activity of Quad biking, either round a track, or trail riding in the beautiful countryside around Tenby.
Dinosaur Park, Tenby. This is a family fun park. Activities include a mile long walk through ancient woodland, on a board walk across swamps on the trail of prehistoric friends. There is also an astro slide, 18 hole adventure golf, an off roaders circuit, trampolines, Jungle climb and pedal trucking.
Folly Farm is much better than your average children's farm. It was winner of the best family day out in Pembrokeshire. There is a zoo with over 200 exotic animals, a vintage funfair, and a barn with your usual farm animals.
Silent World Aquarium and Reptiles, Tenby, is set in the unusual setting of a 19th century chapel of rest. It is home to marine life from around the Pembrokeshire coast and many other exotic creatures. Reptiles, amphibians, creepy crawlies and sea horses are some of the inhabitants to see.
The Dragon Reptiles Experience Pembroke Garden Village, near Pembroke Dock, is to be highly recommended for a free morning or afternoon. There are over 100 enclosures of reptiles, insects, fish and amphibians. There are feeding times and plenty of opportunity to handle and learn about the exotic animals kept there.
Anna Ryder-Richardson's Manor House Wildlife Park, St Florence, Tenby, is well worth a visit. Its new spacious enclosures for the animals are to be applauded. There are plenty of walk through enclosures which allow you to really experience the animals close up. There is a very large emphasis placed on environmental conservation, a theme which is carried on right through the park.
